Beyond the Brain: How Energy Mapping Tools Like Bio-Well Reveal the Full-Body Impact of Light Therapy

At Neuronic, we’ve long focused on the neurological and physiological benefits of our 1070nm transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) helmets. Clinicians and researchers assess its impact using multiple tools - including validated psychometric surveys (e.g., GAD-7, DASS-21, PROMIS-10), cognitive assessments (e.g., CNS Vital Signs, CogniFit, Creyos), qEEG brain maps, and NeuroCatch® testing.

But we’ve always suspected something deeper was at play. Users often report feeling more aligned, more grounded, or "lighter" after sessions.

What if we could see changes beyond mitochondria or cognition — at the quantum or energetic level? Recently, we set out to explore those effects at the energetic level using a unique tool: the Bio-Well.

What is Bio-Well?

Developed by physicist Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, the Bio-Well is a non-invasive energy mapping device that uses Gas Discharge Visualization (GDV) technology to measure photonic emissions from the fingertips. When a gentle electrical impulse is applied, air molecules around the fingertip become excited and emit a visible glow. This glow is captured and processed by the Bio-Well software to create visual representations of how energy flows through the body.

Using mapping principles drawn from biophysics and Eastern medicine, the software associates each fingertip emission with specific organ systems. It generates detailed visuals showing whole-body energy distribution, organ-level energy balance, chakra alignment, and a quantified stress index

While Bio-Well is not a diagnostic tool, it has gained widespread use in both research and integrative wellness settings. It can offer insight into how the body responds to a wide range of interventions - including tPBM, supplements, PEMF, breathwork, and meditation. By capturing real-time shifts in energetic and functional states, Bio-Well provides a unique window into subtle but meaningful changes in the body’s regulatory systems — including stress load, immune function, and emotional balance.

What Did We Do?

At the 2025 Biohacking Conference, a Neuronic team member underwent a Bio-Well scan immediately before and after a tPBM session. The session used our 1070nm helmet with a continuous wave protocol: 10 minutes on, 5-minute break, followed by another 10 minutes. The results showed notable changes.

In addition to the case described below, Bio-Well practitioners sent several attendees our way for before-and-after testing. One participant with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) showed particularly notable results. While we don’t have images to share in this post, the scans revealed measurable improvements in energetic balance and coherence—described by the Bio-Well team as “amazing.”

What do Chakra shifts reveal?

According to Eastern traditions and Ayurvedic medicine, chakras are seven key energy centers that influence physical, emotional, and spiritual balance. In Bio-Well analysis, chakra alignment reflects a person’s current emotional and energetic state.

Shifts in chakra position (left or right) may indicate internal emotional reactions or sensitivity to external influences like people, electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs), or environmental changes. Greater alignment and stability are often seen in individuals who practice regular meditation or emotional regulation techniques.

Key Findings after 1070 nm tPBM intervention :

  • Improved balance overall - aligning with the systemic effect of photobiomodulation
  • Reduced overactivity in the abdominal and urogenital systems, and pre-scan discharges normalized post-intervention.

  • Improved symmetry in the cerebral region — aligning with targeted brain stimulation

  • Increase in energy associated with immune function, even as overall energy output decreased — interpreted as a shift toward greater energy efficiency and improved internal resource allocation.

  • Chakras maintained strong alignment with subtle signs of harmonization

  • Stress index shifted toward optimal levels, suggesting reduced physiological stress response and greater systemic balance.

These shifts conceptually mirror findings from neuroimaging studies (Figure 1), where a single session of photoneuromodulation (PNM) applied to the prefrontal cortex resulted in reduced prefrontal activation — as measured by lower levels of oxygenated hemoglobin (oxy‑Hb) — during a demanding working memory task, without changing performance. This suggests the brain requires less energy to maintain function (Chan et al., 2021). While the Bio-Well does not directly measure cerebral blood flow or oxygenation, the observed shifts in systemic energy balance and stress index may reflect a similar underlying pattern of enhanced efficiency and regulation.

What Does This Mean?

These changes support what many users intuitively feel: that the helmet works beyond the brain, creating systemic shifts that go deeper than cognition alone. While we often focus on tPBM’s role in ATP production and cerebral blood flow, real-time energy mapping suggests hypothesized influences beyond classical physiology — including proposed effects at the electromagnetic and biofield levels, as described in emerging biofield science (Hammerschlag et al., 2015).

As described above, the Bio-Well maps fingertip electrical emissions to organ systems using models from biophysics and Eastern medicine. These emissions are considered part of what's known in the scientific literature as the “biofield”—a subtle, organizing field of energy and information that surrounds and permeates living systems (Hammerschlag et al., 2015).

tPBM acts on cytochrome c oxidase, altering its redox state to enhance ATP production and trigger the release of nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species—key regulators of cell signaling and membrane potential (Cardoso et al., 2022). These changes extend beyond biochemistry, influencing the body’s bioelectrical activity and systemic coherence—patterns inferred from electrical emissions measured by tools like the Bio-Well.

This view is increasingly supported by fields like quantum biology, which explores how subtle energy fields, coherence, and non-local interactions influence everything from photosynthesis in plants to nervous system regulation in humans (McFadden & Al-Khalili, 2014). Tools like heart rate variability (HRV) - which reflects autonomic nervous system balance -  and GDV offer ways to assess these changes in the body's energetic state.

So while the chakra alignment and organ balance visualizations may seem abstract, they reflect measurable shifts in electrical regulation and systemic coherence—key indicators of how the nervous system is responding to interventions like tPBM.  In practice, practitioners may interpret these shifts by comparing changes in symmetry, alignment, and system-specific energy scores between pre- and post-intervention scans, offering functional insight into the body’s regulatory response.

Why It Matters

When we understand healing through both biochemical and energetic lenses, we can create smarter protocols, better studies, and more personalized wellness strategies.  We now have a tool to measure what we previously couldn’t see:

Takeaways

  • tPBM appears to affect the whole-body energy system, not just brain function.
  • Bio-Well can visualize inferred energetic and emotional shifts in real time, based on fingertip emissions, offering new avenues for evaluating interventions.
  • These results echo user experiences of feeling "lighter" or more balanced, now supported by objective pre- and post-session visualizations of energetic data.
  • Energy efficiency, coherence, and stress reduction may be core mechanisms of action, alongside mitochondrial effects.

Future Directions

  • Compare effects between healthy users and those with brain fog, fatigue, or injury.
  • Measure longitudinal impact of regular helmet use (e.g. 3x/week).
  • Correlate Bio-Well data with qEEG, HRV, and cognitive assessments.
  • Explore the impact of different wavelengths and pulse settings.
  • Encourage collaboration for a larger-scale multi-subject study using energetic mapping.

If you're a clinician, wellness provider, or researcher interested in the intersection of light therapy and subtle energy fields, we’d love to collaborate.
